Egg-cellent Easter Eggs

Yesterday in the spirit of Easter my mother and I painted some easter eggs.

This egg I splatter painted in the spirit of Jackson Pollock

We used painters tape to create the designs on these two eggs.

This last egg is my favorite. To create the dots on the egg I wrapped the egg in a paper towel and dripped different colors onto the paper towel.

On December 26 I visited the San Juan Pueblo where the turtle dance was being preformed. I danced the hula with the koshare which are clowns and fell in love with their beautiful costumes. Sadly I could not draw them when i was watching them but as soon as I left I scribbled down as much as I could remember about their outfits.

Sorry I haven't posted anything up in such a long time. Between the end of my first semester of school and the holidays I have been busy. One of my New Years resolutions is to be more consistent with my blog. Above is a picture of me at Vasquez Rocks. I went there on Monday and found it funny when I opened up my Teen Vogue and found this Marc Jacobs advertisement

Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian circus company famous for its shows with dramatic affects, new age music and talented performers. Kooza is one of its newest shows in which the company decided to go back to its roots and focus more on the extreme talent of its performers. This show is considered one of there best because of the truly incredible human feats displayed in the show. Flips on stilts, dancing unicyclists and incredible contortionists make you heart stop.

I tried getting into the spirt of the circus by putting on some colorful tights. Best photo quality I could get with an iphone.

Last night I went to Gustavo Dudamel's Inaugural Concert and Gala. Gustavo is the 28 year old new conductor and music director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Although it was a black tie event inside the beautiful Disney Concert Hall, they offered free tickets to the public by lottery. I was one of those lucky people who got to watch the concert by live simulcast in the Dorothy Chandler less that a block away.

The first piece of music that the Phil performed was City Noir by John Adams. This piece the third in a group based on the California experience. This 30 minute symphony was based on late 40's early 50's Hollywood film noir. It was absolutely wonderful. Dudamel was was so much fun to watch. His movement and facial expressions were so energetic and charming. At the end of the end of the first movment of City Noir he got this grin on his face because he knew that he had done a great job. picture above I took with a delayed exposure so you can really see his movement. I also like the picture to the left because you can see his passion for the music and his energy that he gives the orchestra. If you want 2 free downloads of some of Gustavo's best performances check out this website.

This scarf I made by my self and I will be adding a DIY soon.

This is a picture from a exibit about Joseph Beuys the "German Warhol". This picture is of the artist who was wrapped up in felt by his friends as soon as he arrived in New York. Then they put him in an empty gallery where he was stuck with a coyote and all he had was a cane.

The Jeff Koontz sculptures were also pretty amazing.

Well as my first official post of summer I want to tell you about my trip to Gallery row. Every second thursday night of the month downtown L.A. hosts an art walk which allows free access to all of the art galleries. With this monthly event comes crowds of interesting street performers and a wide variety of clothing.

One of tha craziest things I saw was a man walking around giving people haircuts right on the street.

Along with the art Galleries were clothing stores... One of the strangest ones I saw was a store called Stella Dottir. This store features some interesting 20's clothing and at least 4 cats wandering around. It was pretty wacky but still interesting. This is Stella with a kitten.

Another cool thing I got to go to was an art gallery that was on the roof of own of the buildings featuring one artist I really enjoyed named yasmine diaz.. I really liked her new city collection. Here is one of her works of art.

There was another work of art in the Roof Top Gallery that I really liked but sadly I didn't write down their name. Here is a piece that reminds my of Andy Warhol because of its repetitiveness and play on manufacturing.

Sorry about the horrible photo quality... all I had was my cell phone. Here are some pictures of the view from the rooftop gallery and the band performing at the gallery

Another gallery that I really liked was LACDA which featured an exhibit about the mexican border by Hector Mata.

After exploring the galleries we went to Wurstkuche which is a fantastic german sausage grill with some very exotic sausages ranging from Rabbit and Veal to Alligator and Pork. I stuck with the sun dried tomato and Mozzarella with chicken and Turkey sausage which was easily the best sausage have ever had. I also got the Belgian fries with white truffle oil and the pesto mayo dipping sauce. This fantastic food was topped of with a great atmosphere including a live DJ and a warehouse feel.

San Francisco

When I was in San Fransicsco I went to this wonderful shop called My Trick Pony

This shop makes custom design tee shirts with whatever you want. When I went in the friendly and talented owner Matteo made my this shirt.

If you ever go to San Francisco this shop is a must.

I if you live in the lap of luxury and want some luxury on your lap check out the delicious faux fur blankets Cush has to offer. I have the Two Toned Dark Brown Rosebud With Brown Mink and I love it. Also the scarfs are great (I am constantly borrowing my mom's).
